Dr. Fry is a board-certified physiatrist with over twenty years of experience in interventional treatments of the spine and joints.  He began his training in Nashville at Lipscomb University majoring in chemistry.  He then obtained his osteopathic medical degree in Kansas City at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.  He completed a rotating internship in Columbus Ohio before his residency specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.  He served as chief resident and advanced to his fellowship training in Birmingham in interventional spine.

Dr. Fry returned to his hometown of Knoxville in 2002 to begin his practice.  Family, the mountains, Tennessee athletics, and the East Tennessee people drove him back to Knoxville where his education began in the Farragut school system.  He played football and ran track at Farragut.  He has four brothers, one of which is his twin who practices optometry in Farragut.  His dad was a radiologist in Knoxville.  He is married and has a young adult son and daughter.

He remains active enjoying tennis, cycling, hunting, weight-training, and travelling.

Dr. Fry is trained in non-operative musculoskeletal medicine and disorders of the nervous system and spine.  Dr. Fry believes it is important for his patients to understand the disease process of the spine and joints.  He will implement a treatment plan which starts with conservative care like physical therapy, activity modification, and medications.  Dr. Fry will help navigate the requirements of insurance to provide interventional care when appropriate.  Surgery is sometimes needed and can make proper referrals when needed.  Dr. Fry offers specialized treatment skills learned in his residency and fellowship that include fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided procedures.  He stays current on new technologies such as radiofrequency ablations (medial branch nerve ablations for facet joint associated low back pain and basivertebral nerve ablations for vertebrogenic back pain), spinal cord stimulators, and platelet-rich plasma injections.  Patient involvement in their own care is imperative for successful treatment. It is important to understand the disease process and education is a crucial part of every office visit.  Many of the procedures can be done in the office as we have a fluoroscopic C-arm procedure room in two of our offices.  If anesthesia is desired, and insurance allows many of the procedures can be done at our surgical center at KOSC.

Dr. Fry is involved in teaching tomorrow’s physicians and is on clinical staff at LMU-DCOM.  The clinical experience is a vital part of a medical student’s training and Dr. Fry is committed to expanding the knowledge of spine care to future physicians.
